Leading the Fashion and
Globalization of Hanbok
in Korea
Kim Jung-a was born in Nonsan, Chungcheongnamdo
in 1959 as a second-generation designer who led the
fashion and globalization of Korean Hanbok, and became a traditional Hanbok master as an apprentice of Lee Rhee Za, the first generation Hanbok master.
In 1975, she introduced the concept of Hanbok Designer by holding the first Hanbok presentation in Korea, and received the Best Folklore Award at world beauty competitions such as the 1974-1977 Miss Universe Competition. she has hosted more than 100 Hanbok fashion shows around the world, including the United States and Europe, and participated in the French Pret-aporter fashion show. She designed hanboks for the wives and celebrities of past presidents, including the first ladies Lee Hee-ho, Lee Soon-ja, and Kwon Yang-sook, and also designed hanboks for the 1986 Seoul Asian Games and the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
In 1996, the only Hanbok exhibition hall in Korea was built to display Korean traditional clothing, and the Our Clothes Association was founded. In 2002, she received the Hwagwan Order of Culture and the Sinsa Imdang Award for her lifelong dedication to the development of Hanbok.
